Video: Ride the Whatcom Chief

Take a VIP tour of the Whatcom Chief with Senior Master Richard Hudson, with special peeks in the pilothouse and engine room.

"The whole crew lives on Lummi Island," says Hudson, "It feels good to get up and go to work and come home and feel like you did something for your community."

The Whatcom Chief was built in the Bellingham Shipyards in 1962. The crew is required to live on Lummi Island because the home port is on the island. This is the only ferry operated and maintained by Whatcom County.

The video was produced by Rose Carr, Jade Thurston, and Katie Webberfor a Digital Media in Journalism class at Western Washington University in early 2018.
