Some of my earliest memories are of lazy afternoons spent on Pacific Northwest beaches with my maternal grandmother looking for agates. While I didn’t inherit her talent for spotting agates, I learned that I could spy sea glass pretty well. After many years finding such treasures from the sea on Alaskan beaches—often remnants of old canneries and gold mines—imagine my delight to learn that sea glass can be found on Lummi Island beaches.
I carefully hand collect the glass—removing what to some is “marine debris” from our island beaches—and carefully drilling these lovely sea gems, turn them into one-of-a-kind wine charms and earrings. I also construct sea glass candles through which candle glow enriches and magnifies the lovely colors of the glass.
I hope that the you enjoy these little treasures from the sea as much as I enjoy creating them!
